Our guide to a succesful assessment appeal

Given the demands on the time of the classroom teacher or faculty head/principal teacher, purchasing a commercial prelim paper or papers from Perfect Papers makes sound financial sense. We do our very best to ensure that each of our papers is valid and reliable for the purpose of an assessment appeal and if you're not happy you can return the paper for a full refund*.

All prelim examinations should match the time allocation of the SQA paper. If you split the examination into two sections at different times of the year then ensure that the total time allocation is the same as the SQA paper.

A paper sat in one sitting is notionally more difficult than the same paper sat in two sittings. Assessment appeals should demonstrate the same retention of knowledge as required for the SQA examination. If your prelim is sat in two parts then you should increase the cut-off scores to reflect that the two sittings makes for an easier examination.

Ensure that you carry out some kind of check of the marking procedures and application of the marking scheme. A common reason for assessment appeals to be declined is that the marks awarded by the centre are incorrectly awarded or incorrectly totaled.

Ensure that the marking scheme has been correctly applied and that any additional answers accepted are agreed and added to the marking scheme.

All assessment appeals should be able to link each question to arrangements/content statements. Perfect Papers endeavors to do this for all of our prelim papers where appropriate.
